The Rules of the Game

The Rules of the Game original French title La Rgle du jeu is a 1939 French film directed by Jean Renoir and starring Nora Gregor, Paulette Dubost, Mila Parly, Marcel Dalio, Julien Carette, Roland Toutain, Gaston Modot, Pierre Magnier and Renoir. The film is a comedy of manners that depicts members of upperclass French society and their servants just before the beginning of World War II, showing their moral callousness on the eve of impending destruction.

He is greeted by his friend Octave Jean Renoir, who tells Andr that Christine Nora Gregor the Austrian woman Andr loves has not come to greet him. Andr is heartbroken. When a radio reporter comes to broadcast Andrs first words upon landing, he explains his sorrow and denounces Christine. She is listening to the broadcast in her Paris apartment she is attended by her maid, Lisette Paulette Dubost. Christine has been married to Robert, Marquis de la Chesnaye Marcel Dalio for three years. For two years, Lisette has been married to Schumacher Gaston Modot the gamekeeper at Roberts country estate but she is more devoted to Christine. Christines past relationship with Andr is openly known by her husband, her maid and their friend Octave. After Christine and Robert playfully discuss Andrs emotional display and pledge devotion to each another, Robert excuses himself to make a telephone call. He arranges to meet his mistress Genevive Mila Parly the next morning. ........
